The first black sabbath...classic metal!
This is a must have metal album. It`s the first sabbath and probably the first real metal album. All the songs are great on this CD. I think the title track Black Sabbath and N.I.B. are my favorites. It`s the original line up of Ozzy Osbourne, Toni Iomi, Bill ward, Geezer Butler. A totally Classic album!!!
Heavy metal started here
In 1967-68,Black Sabbath came up with a very brutal, unforgiving, sound in rock music which some people called acid rock but otherwise known as heavy metal. This 1970 debut album has the same trademark sounds that metal still has today.Ozzy Osbourne`s high pitched tenor voice.Tony Iommi`s evil doom and gloom guitar riffs.Geezer Butler`s evil bass rumble and Bill Ward`s heavy drumming. This album isn`t perfect, but it didn`t need to be.After all, metal`s sound was in its birth on this album.Black Sabbath would soar to popularity from here on and helped to pave the way for other metal bands.Nearly every metal band can trace their sound to Black Sabbath to some degree. This album would help Ozzy Osbourne gain the title of "godfather of heavy metal" and defines the roots of metal.Has a very generic album cover compared to what you have today.Heavy metal has had to endure a lot of trends over the years, but if you`re new to the genre, this is a good place to start.
The First Heavy Metal Record
This would have to qualify as the first heavy metal album, and definitely one of the best. Led Zepelin even called themselves an English Folk band. They were more hard rock. But this album was undeniably heavy metal. Very few bands can sound that heavy and that catchy at the same time. It`s usually one or the other. Paranoid is by far the weakest song on the album and is the one people know the best. The first 5 albums by these guys were all great. Black Sabbath, Paranoid, Master of Reality, Volume 4, and Sabbath, Bloody Sabbath were all masterpieces in their own right.

If you consider yourself a fan of heavy metal you have to own this. It is the beginning. Then get Paranoid. And maybe Sabbath, Bloody Sabbath which somehow combined strings with superheavy guitar chords.

But this was the first. Most of it one take, almost jazzy at times in rythms and improvisation. But the band were awesome instrumentalists, and Iommi was a master of the heavy guitar riff.

Nobody did heavy metal better than these guys. Nobody. Not Maiden, Manowar or Metallica.

And this is where it all started.
