Now Way is This the Best Fu Manchu
What`s up with the mix? The drums are way so out front they drown everything. Maybe they were supposed to be "lead drums", which in theory would have not been a bad idea because Fu Manchu had Brandt Bjork, one of the greatest drummers, ever...except he doesn`t do anything on this release except play a basic back beat with little else. A major disappointed if you`re expecting Brandt`s type of explosive anything goes work with Kyuss. The only other excuse to have made the drums louder than everything else would have been to mask the weak unexceptional tunes on this disk. Even the guitar playing is lame. This was obviously the beginning of the end. If your new to Fu Manchu, start with the "The Action is Go" then work backwards through the great Eddy Glass/Ruben Romano era Fu Manchu.
"Breaker Breaker 1-9 !! How Do Ya Read Me ?"
Instead of talking about every song, I`ll jsut say this--this CD is awesome, and is probably Fu Manchu`s second or third best album, depending on which style you like; the old Fu Manchu with Eddie and Ruben (`91-`96), or the new Fu Manchu with Brant and Bob (`97-`04).

With "King of the Road," Fu Manchu dives in completely and gives itself totally to the new sound for the first time. Gone are the dark, sludgy sounds we heard as recently as "Grendel" and "Anodizer" on the last album, and the same sound which permeated "In Search of" and "Daredevil." Now, we get pure rock songs, with that signature FU wall of power chord pounding guitars, like "Blue Tile Fever," "Hell on Wheels," "Over the Edge" and "Boogie Van." These are the best songs on the CD, in my opinion, but truly every song on this disc is catchy, loud, and satisfying. They can be compared roughly to earlier songs "Urethane," "Mongoose (demo version)," "Action is Go," and "Hogwash."

They`ve dropped the sludgy sound. It still sounds like they`ve got 22 guitar players, they`ve just dropped the dark riffs. If you`re cool with that, Fu is cool with you, I guess.
good jam music
Heavy and not to be taken too seriously. Definetly LA stoner music. If you want bludgeoning sledgehammer head injury music see: Electric Wizard, Sleep, Khanate, Bongzilla, Grief to name just a few. This band is another great Sabbath prototype with a flair for the 70`s. Throw in some Thin Lizzy, Deep Purple, and tons of sabbath with accesible vocals and you have Fu Manchu. Kyuss contempories, but not quite as good, this is still great to jam to. Hell on Wheels is awesome. BUY THIS.
