Those releases were terrible: i.e: 20th Century Blues/This was now/Disc 2, etc. That setup didn`t work well so now Trower is back to a 4 piece. `LOOT` to me, is a laid-back affair. There are no balls-out rockers here featuring the usual Trower pyrotechnics, that`s a shame too because fans know what he is capable of. The playing is top flight, vocals are very good. Sound quality is also very good. `LOOT` doesn`t remind me of any particular past release, the guitarwork is more mellow. Only on track 11 do things heat up a bit. I think he is headed in the right direction with this lineup. Maybe the next release will be a little heavier. 11 tracks/51.09. The booklet is sparse, just credits/no lyrics. | | | | It`s about time Robin. | | To me Robin Trower reminds me of Frank Marino in one particular respect. A guitar player second to none that can put out a really boring and even an album that to me isn`t worth keeping. I hate to say that because I love both of these guys. I hate when that happens. However, this is a breath of fresh air to me. Pattison is the only singer that could fill the shoes of the great one and pairs very well with Trower. This Cd is the best I`ve personally heard from trower since Take what you need. Nothing beats the duo with Mr. Dewar but Pattison sounds great and Trower`s guiter is produced much better than recent efforts and old man still has it. | | | | Trower On Target | What a treat! Robin Trower has been keeping a low profile in recent years, but this CD should help raise that profile and bring him back into the ears of serious music fans. I bought this CD last year when Robin first offered it on his website and have been singing its praises to friends and fellow aficionados for the last six months. Now that its available here, no fan will have an excuse to be without it. From the first notes, old Trower fans will hear that something great is in the works. After a number of CDs of decidedly uneven quality, the Trower of old seems to have rediscovered himself. I like the entire CD, but especially excellent are the cuts One Less Victory, Ain`t Gonna Wait, and I Want To Take You With Me. Trower`s play is restrained yet powerful and Davey Pattison`s vocals will almost make you begin to forget the late, great James Dewar. If Robin Trower`s aim is to regain his place at the head of the list of great blues-rock guitarists, then he is right on target with Living Out of Time. I highly recommend you get this while it is available. | | | -- zzzz |
