out of the void
Electric Wizard speaks in the tongue of the abyss. Just listen to "Come my Fanatics." An oily black super-opiated mist fills your head as this great worm uncoils. As its scales rasp against one another - an unholy din both inhuman and sublime - your consciousness disintegrates and your mind is shattered. What then remains? A strange figure in an oaken tower whose thoughts command chaos? A misanthropic outcast condemned to wander vast wastelands devoid of life, picking through the ruins of a devestated world? Or are we left with something more profound? I believe that the infinite space and brain-bending emptiness invoked by Electric Wizard actually give us access to the elemental emptiness from which everything ultimately arises. If they align themselves with this emptiness, it is because they place no faith in the ephemerality which surrounds us. They are fanatics and fundamentalists in the profoundest sense, men who are unwilling to worship or even accept anything other than what can be found at the base of the deepest root, the final foundation of all, the dark pit, the void, the vortex, ever giving birth to, and in turn consuming, whatever is, was or could be. Who among us truly has the courage to follow them into this savage and insatiable maw?
Dark /|/ heavy
These guys would make Sabbath proud. Electric Wizard sounds like Sabbath on vagra. They put the heavy back into metal. They have take doom to a whole new level. I listen to this CD at least once a day.
This review is on the 1st cd by itself.
After countless listens to Dopethrone, I decided to check out the rest of Electric Wizard`s catalog. I first heard some songs off Let Us Prey, and was dissapointed. I like the album now however. So, I decided to check out their earlier albums. Come My Fanatics is pretty much in the same vein as Dopethrone. Bass-heavy production, killer riffs, weird ambiences, etc. I like Dopethrone a lot more though. The best songs are Return Trip, which is now my favorite Electric Wizard song, and Wizard In Black, which has some great riffs and killer guitar solos. The only reason I gave this 4 stars was because of Jus`s singing. It can get annoying after a while, and I didn`t really care for Doom-Mantia. On the whole, 4 stars.
